It took her time to realize…
***
The wind combed through her hair as she trudged through the rain.
She did not make the slightest effort to shelter her body from the downpour.
She figured that the harder the droplets fell,
The easier it would be for her to wash away her pain.
But every time the lightening flashed, memories of her past struck her,
each time knocking her onto the cold, wet ground.
The mud was like a slap in the face.
It covered her fancy clothes;
The clothes that made her feel beautiful on the outside;
The clothes made of the finest silk and lace…
The clothes that made her.
Without them, she was just an insignificant skinny girl with long legs, black hair, and nothing to offer…
And the loud crack of thunder was just a reminder of her insecurities that continued to haunt her.
The reality was inescapable.
The truth was: to the world, she just did not matter.
Negative thoughts ran through her mind just as quick as the rain flowed into the storm drain.
Suddenly, the mud she rested in began to soothe her aching heart;
She made muddy angel imprints in the ground that eventually came to life
to dance around her,
restoring all the tranquility that she once had.
And adding a sense of protection…
She felt safe, she felt beautiful, at last.
The mud was magical.
***
that she was internally beautiful all along.
