High School Rockstar (Poetry Slam group piece)
1:If I had to choose anywhere to
ALL: Rendezvous with destiny
2: I doubt it would have anything to do with
1/2: musty gym stairwells
3: that reek of a yearning to escape and
4: the little boy with coke bottle glasses that
1: just got suckered out of a first date because
ALL: the world can't see beyond thick rims.
3: people who steal kisses behind the handrails
4: rob me of more than just my lunch
1: but my perspective, cause I honestly can't see how
2: high school could ever be a fairytale.
3/4: Teenagers take the world by its horns
3: and bullfight with the innocence that some
1: people like me don't want to start the process of losing.
4: Attitudes aside, this place could just use a hearty dose of
ALL: common sense
1: and maybe a little personal hygeine for
2: a building clouded in the dust of drama
4: and not the staged kind we rehearse; I'm sure
3: there's those who'd pay more to see the production of my dirty laundry being aired than
ALL: what really matters.
1: and my heroes, the ones I know had skinned teenage knees, the ones I
1/4: wish I could emulate
4: are just fading stars in my eyes that slid behind the dark side of the moon, joining the
ALL: forever 27 club
3: before their time, too soon a last note, suspended in an era that seems
2: much too far from mine.
1: sometimes I wonder when I'll finally see the other side of the record
album; when the kitchy love songs will cease to exist and the only thing that reverberates will be
ALL: symphonies of my metamorphasis
2:breaking free from that crysalis of uncertainty
4: I'll finally learn what it means to live like a sustained chord.
3: the kind I wanna play
ALL: p-p-play until it starts to skip
2: dance with success till my jeans rip
3: apart at the seams, and there's no time left to
4: dwell in or on those hallowed halls that were singlehandedly
1: responsible for my many colored days.
ALL: This time I don't want it painted black.
1: and from the first time I step I take out from behind that stairwell
4: I'll be 18 going on
ALL: twenty eight
3: for all of those broken dreamers; God bless the child
2: who just never could find his own.
