You've Been Gone
You've been gone now
for more than a year
It's been so rough
without you here.
I stayed by your side
'til I had to leave,
I really didn't want to -
but Mommy really needed to sleep.
You didn't let go that night,
but I knew it would be soon -
That's the reason I refused
to leave your room.
The tears ran down my face
as your heartbeat began to drop,
“This can't be happening; He's
too strong to lose this fight.”
I ran to get Mommy -
it was the only time we departed
& that's when you finally decided
to go up with our Father.
A year has passed without
seeing your precious face -
It's still hard,
but I accept it, because now
I know you're in a better place.
