In the Midst of the Mist MAG
Time passes
Faster and faster,
The hands of the clock
Continue to count
One, two hours.
Sense of direction
Memory, conception
All lost, no longer tangible
Or even able to comprehend.
The thoughts that plague my dreams
Begin to smear.
Conform then re-form
Change and re-change.
Desires rise and then fall
At the sight of your face
Your lips pressed against mine.
My heart stumbles, trips, begins to plummet.
As I sit there
Motionless
Staring into the past
Captured to reminisce
That which didn't last.
I start to mumble
Then to sing
Our favorite song
As I listen to the rain
Pattering upon the flame.
I watch the mist fade,
The smoke clear
The fragments of what I used to cling to at night
Gone, disappear.
My eyes slowly close
Then my hips turn away
But my hand continues to hold,
Hoping, that maybe someday
My grip will meet
Or find, feel, hold;
Your fingers seep into my palm
And then my soul.
I pause for a moment
Reflecting on the years.
I tell my feet
“Get up, move!”
But only my ears hear.
I decide
Rather than waste my life
Standing by this empty fireside!
Wait, be patient
Don't run too fast
Give it some time.
