A Heart's Battlefield, Twice
On a dark and lonesome battlefield,
on the far side of the world,
a young soldier in darkness dwelt,
terrified of the swift and sweet revenge
taken in the form of spilling fire raining from the skies;
All around him,
the bravest of hearts fall into the ashes of youth.
And in his mind he can only think, "Nevermore."
Back at home, his lover waits,
twirling a ring of deep dark gold around her now frail finger,
her only promise, her only hope.
Her nectar thoughts, sweet as honey,
sent to him in letters of screaming words.
She tries not to think of falling stars and eagles,
but to keep her mind focused on his marble words,
"I will always come back for you."
