The Irony of Dreams
Don’t you see it?
Is it just me?
Or do you also realize
the irony in dreams?
How is it that the happiest?
are the ones that haunt me most?
They follow me for weeks
An unseen ghost
Nightmares can be brushed off easily.
They’re just not real.
After they’re over,
there’s nothing to feel
But with sweet dreams,
that comfort is gone
The problem becomes: It’s only a dream.
Everything that’s happened becomes undone.
So I’m stuck with this happiness
that inevitably becomes opposite
Bittersweet smiles become a reminder
that it was only a dream and that’s it.
