Red Leaf
As the leaves turn and the autumn memory fade,
I will breathe and walk below a low canopy
And touch a red leaf.
Its firelight in my mind will be lost
In a tempest of thoughts,
never to survive but drown in a lake of tears
that will shed one at a time.
I will never remember that red leaf-
It’s fury, it’s free beauty, it’s wild dance of life,
for it is small and so insignificant…
Until the day I close my eyes,
And feel what it is like to be
In tune with the wild torrent
Of hues sunny golden, romping red, and deep amethyst.
I’ll be
Falling…
Falling…
And become nothing.
