Everyone says “You’re only nineteen.”
But for me there’s no in between
It’s all or nothing with the red thick blood pumping through my heart
Society has so many expectations, the list is so long—don’t even start.

They say “You’re only nineteen.”
But I won’t hold back, I’ll make a scene
If he won’t say he’ll marry me
People—don’t you know how to believe?

You’re all the same
“Get married after you finish college, don’t get tied down too early in the game”
I’m nineteen
But my love will be heard, and it will be seen…

I love his humor, grey eyes, and the way he smiles
Don’t know how you all think this love won’t take me miles
I love the way he makes me laugh and his soft skin
Tell me, is that such a sin?

Everyone says, “You’re only nineteen.”
But for me there’s no in between
It’s all or nothing—so when you judge me and call me out
Just know that though you’re not the one who believes in passion—I’ll make it count.

I really liked reading this, and it changed my outlook on teen love considerably. But I've always held the belief that we are much more complex than adult society imagines. Well done with this poem.
