Summerstop
Running barefoot across fresh-mown grass, The stretch in the shade still wet with dew. Sunbeams spilling like water down your face As you run to hit the volleyball Just an inch above the net, As you slide to your knees in the thick, soft grass, And as you look up to see a monarch butterfly, Perfect stained-glass wings Sharp and bright against a perfect blue sky. Running under the apple tree, Dodging the orange-red apples that are Falling toward your head; Reaching up to catch the green leaf spiraling downward - And when it hits your outstretched palm, It turns Suddenly Red And the entire world is changed.
