June Birds
June birds whistle outside my window
Waking up, my feet stumble
Clumsy from a long night’s rest
One foot trips over the other, but I am able to regain balance
My hand brushes against the window shade
A tingling sensation
I lift the curtain
That hinders light coming from the sun
To find the view of the meadow
I peer out and smell the nectar of blooming daffodils
Huckleberries swarming the field
And there he is!
He hops, plowing through the grass
That one bird
Singing the summer song
That I long to know.
