Fall's Fall
The mountains’ top felt colder than was said,
My fingers chilled by the bitter air,
And my heart it felt was all but dead,
And I knew that of this, she wouldn’t care.
And as I looked upon the scene
Of which I had previously been part,
The thoughts of what happened made me keen,
And my eyes brought me back to my troubles start.
I could see its form barely now,
Its deadened color blending in with the wood,
And the scene I try to forget, but don’t know how,
This pond had scarred me like I didn’t know it could.
My eyes then followed its winding tail,
Cool water descending through a dying land,
And these pangs of hurt I know would never fail,
And that my heart's ruin was close at hand.
Its path drew me to a lonely field,
Its growth now perishing under the browning leaves,
And I knew that my heart could never be healed,
And while my eyes shed tears, my chest it heaves.
My heart is broken as in two,
And I have not a single reason to go on,
And here’s a fact I know is true-
She will not miss me if I’m gone.
