The next step
A girl becomes a girl no more today
Her age deceives her eyes, her heart, her mind
By law she’s free, by home she’s not away
A child that’s bound within herself to find
Independent person not built by time
The goal just sits beyond her hands, her grasp
Like breeze, a tease, each time she hears wind chimes
It’s there unseen too quick, too swift, too fast
The age that fears, then, to release the past
Cannot grow to become woman of grace
The world awaits her choice, but doubt is cast
Acute moment now to define her face
Each step counted, they watch where she’ll be seen
Pressure stands to build the girl of eighteen
