the air is brisk
and the night is young.
her laughter bubbles over;
loud enough to cover up
the pitter patter of her heart.
he smiles and
she smiles and
maybe he knows but
he does not.
say what you mean
and mean what you say;
when he speaks,
its directly to her.
he looks to her as he opens his mouth
because
his thoughts come out ridiculous
but she translates his language;
she understands him.
but he is blind;
he is looking into the photo
but he does not see the whole picture.
maybe it’s supposed to be this way,
but it’s not.
she knows they would fit
like pieces of that puzzle on his table.
