Difficult Words
He smiles like
He doesn’t care
Like he’s totally unaware
That I’m here
Looking at him
Searching for something to say
Paralyzed by my own fears
Feeling the sting of oncoming tears
He’s laughing while
I’m standing here
Joking like he doesn’t see
Me
Locked in my own mind and
Waiting for a key
The one that only he
Can turn to make me free
I’m thinking of something that might be
Or something that might not
If he never hears what I’ve got
To say, and as my mouth stays shut
And his stays curled upwards
I think it’s fair to say that he won’t hear
A single word.
