A Hero
He kissed me on the forehead and said “I'll be back”
As if a seven year old boy like me
was too young to understand or know
What his mission was and where he had to go
I watched as he left, in his uniform and hat
Leaving footprints in the snow
That's how I remember my Dad, about a year ago
That's how I remember him, as I watched him go
“A Loving Father and Husband” is written on my hero's grave
And as I stared at my daddy's headstone
and the flowers that were laid
I wondered and wondered why he had to leave
Why he just couldn't have stayed home
and still be with me?
But my Daddy had a heart for his country
and was willing to fight
For the ones he love,
For the things that were right
I know he still loves me
And I'm proud to say
That my dad was something special,
That maybe, I will be just like him one day
A hero.
