The Pencil Ode
Sharpened,
it takes me anywhere
Deep gray on light paper
Filling lines like notes
of a song
Rolling across the page
a wave, a gust of wind
Dull,
it sits alone
unused and forgotten
for a brother
one of its own
but, not forever
for I will sharpen it
again
A pencil is a gift
what I use
everyday
for forever
never forgetting the forgotten
the ones sitting alone
on the desk
because I use them
to imagine, live
to hope
