Lessons of First

Stop, aim, kick like a kangaroo.
That’s what my dad first taught me.
The season made him teach.
That was a first.

That’s what my dad first taught me:
There’s more firsts than the first.
The season made him teach.
More than one first has come so far.

There’s more firsts than the first.
I thought he’d always teach of firsts.
But only one first did he miss so far.
That’s a first problem.

I thought he’d always teach of firsts.
He didn’t remember everything.
That’s a first problem.
I thought the time would never end.

He didn’t remember everything.
But I can still see his immense eyes.
I thought the time would never end.
I didn’t want a final first.
But I can still see his immense eyes.
When will all the firsts end?
I didn’t want a final first.
I was taught of so many of them.

When will all the firsts end?
That’s what my dad first taught me.
I was taught of so many of them.
The season made him teach.
