The immortality of death
Those interminable moments swiftly flitted by
Like the incandescent wings of a butterfly
For no one they paused and on they strode
Through shadow and shine on life's gravelly road
Their leader was time as they marched stonily through strife
Leaving emotionless footprints on the sands of life
As they aged, with quivering hands and eyes brimming with tears
They wove days into months and fleeting months into years
Insidiously and silently, these years they combined
Universally composing the shroud of time
Like a puppet in his master's hands controlled by fragile strings
Like a bird who always yearned to fly, but discovered not his wings
A solitary moment from the crowds of time eased its way through
Completing his endeavour towards peace, he found his way to you
Fear not of having him in your hands, but gently bind him there
And in his imploring eyes reflect upon the moments that we shared
May you keep him forever, nestled lovingly in your heart
For albeit the bondage of life or the release of death, never does love part.
