Stage 4
February 4th is a day I will never forget,
The day that we started to talk,
And watch a friendship develop
Right in front of our eyes;
8th grade we always sat
Me next to you,
In History, English and art;
It was inside those very halls,
A real relationship was formed,
You, my first kiss, and I, yours;
We were two kids that fell in love,
A never ending love,
Love that would last a lifetime;
Freshman year approached,
And we were there to greet it
Hand in hand;
Then we came to know,
We were made for each other;
It was that year,
Your brother and sister had left,
A marriage over and gone,
I was with you through it all,
The struggle, the pain, the tears;
Our love only grew stronger,
A never ending love,
Love that would last a lifetime;
Sophomore year was simple, yet fast;
It was as if we were joined together
At the hip;
Spending every second we could
With one another;
Sneaking out my window,
Just for that goodnight kiss;
You were always on my mind,
Our wedding I began to plan,
We knew we were meant to be,
Our relationship would last forever;
Our love was very rare,
A never ending love,
Love that would last a lifetime;
Junior year changed our lives,
There was crying every day;
My faith slipped through my fingers,
When I needed Him the most;
I fought to pull it back;
My thoughts full of doubt,
Pushing it away;
Why? Why? Why?
That's all I ever said,
Why this? Why you?
I just needed to know;
How could He bring this upon
Someone as good as you?
I was with you every step,
Every morning, every night;
This proved to everyone
Our love was a flame,
Burning bright in our hearts;
Our love was strong;
A never ending love,
Love that would last a lifetime;
Senior year was much of the same;
That place it became,
All too familiar;
The blinding bright light,
The sea of white,
The doctors and nurses,
My thoughts,
My questions,
My fear,
Closing in on every side,
Suffocating me;
It was killing me inside,
Watching you slowly fade away;
It is not fair;
We were being torn apart,
My best friend,
My love,
The most important in my life;
It was that day in May,
Five years for us exactly,
They said they could do no more;
Further treatment could not be done,
I looked you in the eyes,
Saying it was okay;
I told you to do whatever was left
To be done;
I held you in my arms,
My tears fell like rain,
You kissed me one final time,
To this day I can still feel your lips;
You told me I was more important to you
Than anything in the world;
You told me how much you loved me,
Before you knocked on heaven's door;
That last breath you did take,
With me by your side;
Stage four cancer took
You away from me;
Our love will always remain,
A never ending love,
Love that will last a lifetime;
I am older now;
I am missing you a lot;
Every week I come here and I sit,
I lay in that empty place beside you,
That place where I will find my peace,
When my day finally comes;
I feel the coolness on my lips,
As I kiss that precious name;
I still love you more than anything,
My best friend,
My love,
The most important in my life;
We were two kids that fell in love,
A never ending love,
Love that would last a lifetime;
