Obstructions to Studies
I sit alone and at my books.
From beyond me comes the sound of flutes
A haunting melody reminding me
Of what is not and cannot be
As cathodes and anodes float through my head
The rhythm of a war drum comes from my bed
I look behind, nothing to see
So I turn back to 129 times 3
An elephant walks down the lane
I go to the garden to see
Forgetting the causes of acid rain
And long-winded poems from the era of Kandy
The newspapers are going begging in front of me
In favour of them I abandon triangle ABC
Someone puts the radio on
I sing along to my favourite song
