Death of a Kite
I walked in the park in the evening
Small boys were flying their kites
All red, and blue, with long gaudy tails
The sky was the sea and the kites the boat-sails.
And in a tree, a lonesome tree
There was a tattered, broken kite
Stuck on the branches it should have avoided
The wind brought it there in its flight.
And it was sad, for such a lovely kite
Deserved to be on the end of a string
Fluttering, sailing, in the blue, blue sky
Not here, like a bird with a broken wing.
