Oblivion
I wanted you with me
Forever and a day
I wanted you by my side
I'd hoped you would stay
There is always room
In my heart for you
Of that there is no doubt
But you cast all that aside
When you threw me out
Into the cold I walked
Out into the streets alone
Looking for a quiet place
Where I could be alone
Because the grief
Was just too much
After all
You were my first love
Now I am wary
Of those I should trust
Of those who reach for my hand
With a warm, soft touch
I feel I can trust no one
Can let no one get close
For between all those I loved
I cared for you the most
And now here we are
Acting like we are strangers
Avoiding one another
Sidestepping all the dangers
For we walk in a minefield
Dancing 'round the bombs
That would send us both
Into oblivion
We have not cleaned up
Nor done damage control
For we are alone
Our love has taken its toll
