The Worst thing about Life
I remember when I could run through the street
in the blistering warm July summer heat
lacking shoes on my feet
I seldom missed a beat
of the bustling summer around me
Without a care in the world
baseballs were hurled
whizzing by my head
nearly striking me dead
But I didn't fret
I had plenty more years to come, yet
As I grew older
and I grew wiser
the rhyme in my life stopped
I began to worry
began to think
that one day life wouldn't be
as simple as
climbing trees and building forts
because no matter what
you eventually grow up.
