Little Birdwatcher
In the city’s center are some trees
That unite to make a wood
Where the little birdwatcher watches
Though I don’t know that he should
An owl lives in one tree
He is older than his home
Asleep at day, vicious at night
For that he lives alone
Three crows are next oak over
Though their cawing sounds like five
They squawk and chirp and beat their wings
To prove that they’re alive
One day a change resounds
Through the small and wooded glen
Old Mr. Owl, alone so long
Has finally found a hen
She is large and gray and lustrous
She hunts silent in the night
But she cannot stand her new noisy neighbors
So the owl hen takes flight
Our owl’s devastated
For he knows what he has lost
He’ll take revenge upon his neighbors
No matter the bloody cost
One night when they are sleeping
Ignoring silent begs
Our owl friend lands on their tree
And smashes all the eggs
When the noble crows awaken
Their pain’s too much to bear
They swear they will have vengeance
For their own lives they don’t care
Cawing crows chase our owl from his nest
But on one he lands a killing blow
While the other two slash out owl’s eyes
Little birdwatcher watches from below
