I must be such a disappointment, mother.
“Demonspawn,” that’s what you say;
You wanted a daughter and you got a monster.

Can I help the way I’m drawn to slaughter?
Should I be sorry for leading myself astray?
I must be such a disappointment, mother.

A wolf living like a sheep, you couldn’t help but despair.
Because the older I got the less I controlled my ways:
You wanted a daughter and you got a monster.

Even in the time when we lived together,
You tried to keep me from myself, every day
I must be such a disappointment, mother.

Mother, you can’t ignore truth that’s right there.
I’m just like you, no matter how much you pray.
You wanted a daughter and you got a monster.

I’d much rather be a creature of horror,
Than live a life like yours, true nature buried away.
I must be such a disappointment, mother;
You wanted a daughter and you got a monster.

The author's comments:
This poem was inspired by Vanora, a very, very minor character in X-Factor Volume 3 (it has nothing to do with the reality TV show). Still, I liked her a lot for the short time she appeared, so I wrote this poem from her perspective. It's a villanelle.

This was insanely sensitive. I loved it. You pulled your emotion and really put into use well.
