Dreams
Dreams of cotton candy sweets
And baking in the summer heat
Kindness all around
Sitting with friends on the ground
Nightmares of betrayal and self-hatred
Restless sleep of all the bad things fated
Toss and turn and all the sins prevail
Receive nasty letters and death threats in the mail
Friends shout “Happy Birthday!” with pure joy
I open presents and think to myself Oh boy!
Have cake with friends and laugh with all my guests
Enjoy my birthday and make it the very best
Houses crumbling around me as I fall
From afar, I hear a very faint call
“Come back! Help me!” I can’t go there
I’m sinking in a sea of my despair
Cries of happiness come from children enthralled
With the appearance of Santa Claus at the local mall
Amazing how the world comes together
If only people were never under the weather
Shrieks of terror come from children appalled
With their parents into zombies at the local mall
Terrifying how reality twists everyone’s bad dreams
So they are scared the most by what they have seen
The bells toll for me as I am escorted to my stand
I give a speech that brings screeches from my fans
I am elected US president
I bring happiness to all its residents
The shot rings out and blood’s everywhere
People are screaming and I’m brought to Urgent Care
“The president has been shot!” The headlines will blare
After a few years, not a soul will care
I dream of beauty, I dream of peace
I dream of petting a dog with no leash
I dream of terror, I dream of war
I dream of a heat wave closing the ice cream stores
Land of desserts with marshmallow fluff
No more eating all of the right stuff
I dream a dream of fantasy
Oh, if I could only see
The terror of the real world around me.
In this one I did something and got stuck in Hell
Contrary to the devil’s thoughts it’s not all that swell
Nightmare of nightmares void of glee
Oh, if I could only see
The beauty of the real world around me.
