Stars
I once knew a boy with stars in his eyes
And a smile so bright
It brought shame to the skies
So I asked him one day if he’d ever felt love
And he answered “Yes, thank the gods up above”
But later that year I saw him again
And I wondered why he had seemed so grim
The stars in his eyes had turned into black holes
And the warmth in his smile had quickly turned cold
He told me of how he’d never felt so much pain
And he said that he might be going insane
He told me of how he barely sleeps at night
And how his life has no meaning
When he’s not holding her tight
So, I told the boy that once had stars in his eyes
That people will hurt you, that I guarantee
But if you never fall, then you can never succeed
I know it might feel unbearable
And I know you’ve never felt so much turmoil
But at the end of the day, you only have you
You could feel such happiness again if you wanted to
You just have to keep searching for the heart that is true
But please, sweet boy, don’t let such unacquainted love
Take the stars from your eyes
Keep smiling bright, and bring shame to those skies
