I See and I Hear
Between you and me,
There are a few things I refuse to see.
Such as the weight I slowly gain,
To those on the streets who look at me with pain.
There are even things I refuse to hear,
Whether or not you’re here.
Like the brutal insults that I bear,
And hearing others ask if I even care.
What I refuse to see,
Are not just the flaws in me.
There are things about you,
I tend to see through.
Sometimes the words I hear are few,
But what I do I know is true.
You say you want life to start,
But I know it can’t while we’re apart.
I will not see the constant pressure,
Neither of us are the aggressor.
My eyes look away from your little mistakes,
Because you’re here for me when my heart breaks.
Apologies are all I hear,
But all I want is you near.
Between you and me,
Our future together is all I see.
