"Let them hate, so long as they fear me" ~Colligula

Darkness swirls red, in the center a void
It stares into the world that never was
The heart beats with no body
The body moves with no heart and no cause
His world is gone, it was destroyed
And time flows on without pause
He observes the world around him and copies
The ocean stops to notice the flaws

No, Dont do it
No, Dont move
No, Dont do it
No, Dont move

A withered and wrecked corpse of a wretch
I stretch and still I ache
Wait, I wonder, will she remember
The time that we spent at the lake
We sat in the sun as the wind blew
The leaves danced in the chill of december
We looked to the sky, I looked in her eyes
As I whispered my first “I love you”

Please, don’t say it
Wait, I can change
Please, don’t say it
I swear I can change

He opens his rusted eyes
To feel the pain, to take in the hate
Look out to the space between lives
Past the world, past people, past lies
Don’t try to love him, it’s too late
He’s offensive, he’s defensive
Just look away while he dies

It’s okay, let go
I still love her
It’s okay, I’ll let go
She still loves me

It’s time, I shall go
I’ll reach out to the void and grab hold
Ignore the fire, ignore the cold
Watch the tale foretold unfold
This fools gold for this fool too old
To believe that love would hold
Against evils of the world untold

I touch my face and look away
The piece of me that would never sway
The piece of her that should have stayed
No one notices how still I lay

"The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." -Mark Twain

I have chills. Need I say more? (But as you know by now, I will. :P) As usual, the lines so powerful, images so shocking, sentiment so raw and vivid and tangible. I could leave it at that, but I love picking apart Great Writing, so if you don't mind reading it, here you go! I love the alternating stanzas. There's a heart pounding in there, and its terribly fitting that after "how still I lay," there is no more heartbeat, no more of the buh-bum rhythm. At the same time, I feel like I'm watching you drown as I stand idly by. I am mesmerized by your other-wordly ability to evoke these emotions. You really, really connect with the reader. Just... wow. Favorite parts: "Wait, I can change.../ I swear I can change" - there is something gripping in the way you change this line. It's one of those beyond words effects that a writer either can or cannot create, and you can. Also, "The ocean stops." Like, whoah. I am in the presence of greatness. And lastly, as I read it over again, I am just blown away by the skill in the way you use perspectives. Throughout you're toying with 1st and 2nd, but in that one stanza where you hit 3rd, it produces this totally other, total bystander feel, and it makes me feel so helpless, like I'm watching you pound your fists against a glass wall and I can't do anything but wait for you to die. Uggh, SO GOOD!!! By the way, repetition in the title=perfection.
