My friend told me jokingly,
"Your talking annoys me."
And so that day
I decided something.
For the rest of the day
I didn't speak
I merely observed
the world around me.
The new perspective
was informing
annoying
and yet surprising.
Not everyone noticed
although quite a few did.
I left to go home
at the end of the day.
I pondered
what I had done.
Did I really
always want to be this way?
There's a reason
we are born
with two ears
and only one mouth.
But we are also
born with a mouth
for a reason
and it should be used.
It took a lot
to make me realize
all these things
that day I didn't speak.
