They weren't in love, they said, but they were each other's worlds.
They wanted to get away, to make a life for themselves elsewhere.
They wanted to create a way of life, unlived by anyone else before.
They wanted to be together, in everything, but they weren't in love, they said.

They were in love, just pretending not to be, so if they got hurt they could say "Well, we weren't in love anyway" but they were.
I originally wrote this without the last line and without "they said" but as I was posting it I decided to change it so that they might actually be in love, but denying it. Take it how you will. :)
