The Mission: learn, study, and take samples  of Mars.
However, then things begin to get bad as a  sand storm, too strong for the shuttle to   handle, hits.
Evacuate, and fast, were the orders.

Mark, presumed dead, is left,
A s all pre-mission classes installed, to leave  the dead,
Regretfully, he is left alive though.
To be left all alone on Mars,
Isolated from the world,
All interactions to the world and connections gone.
Not sure if he'll ever make it home again, but with a strong will to live.

Man of the lowest NASA "social class",
Assumed dead due to injury and sand
storm.
Really actually alive on Mars.
Knowledge of space and technology of NASA are least of his crew.

Ways of contacting Earth are destroyed, gone, and un-fixable.
Absolute in his wish to make it back home.
Thorough in his planning, Mark must live until Ares 4 makes it to Mars, which is not for several years.
Never allowing doubt of his survival to overtake him, Mark just might make it.
Entertaining his time with growing food and enjoying the movies and things his fellow crew members brought but had to leave  behind on Mars, Mark
Yearns to make it back home.

I loved the book The Martian and used it as my inspiration.

I enjoyed reading this! It makes me wonder about our future in space exploration.
