A Brick
I found thee by a corner,
Disgraced, deplorable, wasted.
They picked you up and left you divorced,
You were betrayed and dismayed.
But I nursed sweetness back to your heart,
I resuscitated a beaming failure to life!
To a new found niche- to my soul!
I put ye in my backpack, in a foil-cased box.
They said you were territorial,
A child by tiger and a municipal report.
You didn't like to adhere to your peers.
None of that cement around the edges!
I cleaned you up to a sandstone trace,
Your porous membranes soaked in the light,
I saw your brilliance again in a shady maroon!
Perfectly rectangular, orthogonal too!
We went to the construction site.
I saw most certainly an idyllic scene,
You leapt over the messy grimes of mud and grease.
Then I saw in your eyes your livelihood.
You saw the spot, just a golden gap.
You jumped and filled in that hole.
In admiration, I saw the remarkable, legendary feat
You not built the library, but the foundation of a nation.
