Fifteen
I am fifteen, and a sister wife
I wonder if my family is out looking for me, wondering where i have gone
i hear noises that sound like heavy snow boots coming down the hall
i see a immense shadow casting over the door frame
I want to get out of here and be with my real family
I am fifteen, and a sister wife
I pretend this is a dream, that i am not a wife who's pregnant
i feel this old man touching and feeling me and i feel so repulsive
I touch these old rags, and wondered why anyone would want me
i worry i will not be enough and eventually die here
i cry knowing i might never get out of here and that i will never see my family again
i am fifteen, and a sister wife
i understand if i leave this town, my family and i will be killed
i say this shouldn’t happen to any girl, this is unbelievable
i dream of escaping this life, this marriage
i try to keep my head up and not show any feelings
i hope i have a healthy baby and get out of this place
i am fifteen, and a sister wife

This poem is about Polygamy.
This fifteen year old girl is a wife, pregnant, and worried that she will die in the house that her 'husband' is living in. She wants to be back with her family, and to be a normal teenager. She doesn't know why anyone would want her or why she was chosen. She wants to escape, but she just tries to keep her head up and hopes and prays to get out safe and sound.
I wrote this poem for a Honors English Class and it is based on my book I was reading for our book project.
Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer.
