Fear
It claws at you,
Day after day,
Trying to overpower you,
Almost succeeding.
It seizes you,
Drawing you into its grasp,
Growing after every breath you take,
Trying to take it.
Too strong,
Must get away,
But can't,
Too powerful.
What grips you when you're alone in a dark alley,
What takes your breath away when you see a shadow in the dark,
What will stay contained in you your whole life.
Always there,
There without knowledge,
Adrenaline rushing through your body,
Affecting judgment,
Fear.
Leaping inside you,
Devouring from the inside out,
Anxious to come out,
To unleash havoc upon the world,
But won't,
Can't come out,
Trying and failing,
Trying and failing,
It grips you,
Takes you away,
Away to its realm,
Blink and it's gone.
There's no use fighting it,
For that is what it wishes,
If it wants you to fear, you'll fear no matter what,
Fear for the world,
Fear for friends and family,
Fear for you.
It's on our side,
Helps worry,
Helps feel,
Helps love,
For without fear there's no love,
Without love there isn't life,
Without life there isn't anything.
Unfeasible to surmount,
To prevail,
The only successor is fear itself,
Like a fish on your line,
Let it run,
Soon it will get tired,
But will never leave.
