Cupid's Poisoned Arrows
Love- such a mystical prospect
how does such emotion commence?
A bow strung by the god of love
a flying arrow soars- aimed for a beating heart
-a pair of hearts beating in tune-
bound forever by shaft and feathers
But if that is the genesis of love-
then how does it come to spoil?
Are some arrows cared for less than others-
do they pierce the heart cracked and worn-
Proclaiming faithful love until they slowly disintegrate?
Or are some handled by the god of hate
or maybe cupid decided to play the twisted hand of fate.
Maybe some arrows he dips in poison-
when they pierce lovers' hearts-
the venom implanted.
The love the heart circulates-
doomed forever to deteriorate.
Is there no antidote
for cupid's poisoned arrows?
