I’ve spent years making my little house of glass,

Building each beam and detail, adding to its mass.

Through rain, hail, sleet, sun, hurricanes, and snow,

I managed to complete it and help it to grow.

It’s beautiful interior designed perfectly by me,

When suddenly I hear a knock, who could that be?

I rush to the front door where a stranger stands,

“I want to come in” He said taking my hands.

I looked back into my little glass house and nodded,

He smiled and to my hesitant behavior, he disregarded.

I started to protest as he hung some frames on my wall,

“No!” I protested, “This is my home! Don’t clutter my hall!”.

He cooed and whispered as he continued to change,

I would get lost in his beautiful eyes as he would rearrange.

Days went by and life wasn’t so bad anymore,

Because I wasn’t as lonely as I was before.

But then, one morning, as I woke from my sleep,

I found that my lover, he fled in the night so I weep.

Tears soaking through the mattress to the hard brass,

Trapped, alone, in his little house of glass.
