Survive

The cargo was a secret
Each time we spoke about it the Commander gave a threat
We had a safe journey there
And delivered the cargo without despair
However, the travel back
Receiving an attack
Sunk by a Japanese submarine
Everyone exposing a side, before unseen
Ablaze was the ship to carry us home
Now we live a horror tome
1,197 men were on that boat
Now only 900 are afloat
It was at night when we were hit
All sailors were split
Scattered about the Philippine Sea
If ever before death was an option, now we hold the key
For 5 days we crawl above the surface of the water
Trying not to be the victim of a shark slaughter
Waiting and waiting for a rescue
Men beginning to fall for what is untrue
Mistaking their own for the enemy
And gathering those who would agree
Saved by a plane
For once, calm we can remain
To our displeasure
We discover
That there are now only 317 of us
We can say nothing but we are blessed
That secret cargo we can now say
Was used to wipe Hiroshima away…
