The drastic war
Here I have learned how to fight, all from my countries spite,
I have learned to shoot and hold a gun as the fate of war is spun,
In no man’s land I have run as my brother’s die one by one,
I run and crawl through the wire for the end that I desire,
In the trenches do I hide the wild war I do ride,
I gasp and cry from my wounds knowing that there are bullets soon,
As the fighting draws to a close the painful memories still enclose,
I walk back home with a hollow heart with the slightest noise I will start,
All the soldiers that have lived are as close to the dead.
