The Poverty Girl
Would she always be this way?
Homeless, with nowhere to go.
Would there ever be a change in her days?
Her shirt was filthy, ripped, and gray.
Her shoe had a hole in the toe.
Would she always be this way?
Under the stars every night she lay,
Her hopes dying and low.
Would there ever be a change in her days?
With nothing to pass the time away,
She silently sat in the snow.
Would she always be this way?
Sitting on the lonesome street, astray,
Her thoughts and questions flowed.
Would there ever be a change in her days?
Until something changed, she decided to stay.
For she had nowhere else to go.
Would she always be this way?
Would there ever be a change in her days?
