The Jar
I have a little piece of home,
I keep it in a jar,
To remind me of where I was born,
And where my mem'ries are.
Within there are some simple things:
Soft sand, and clear, cool brine,
Pebbles: dapppled brown and white, And shells that glint and shine.
A whisper, yes, a solemn vow,
That soon i will regress,
A sacred tear; my joy, and fear,
And sorrow to express.
Upon my desk this jar does sit;
It keeps me in good faith,
That someday i will return home,
Just as I've hoped and saith.
