Somebody Loved
Perhaps when I am gone, my love,
A soul won't know my name,
I'm just a dewdrop in the grass,
The ash beneath the flame.
When all my doors have slowly closed
And give out no more light,
Abided minds will cry no more,
Their futures plumb and bright.
I'll come to them in dreams sometimes,
With moistened cheeks, so sweet,
With glory lost and glory gained,
Which only you complete.
I'll have no tribute to my name,
Nor chronicles to cuff,
But I'd have loved with all my heart,
And that will be enough.
