Dear Death
You don’t understand my sorrow
And you don’t understand my pain
Why is it every time I look at you
You do not look the same?
Even though you look so different
I recognize you each time you go
Right now I’m just a little confused
And I’d really like to know
Why every time I see you
You never look my way?
And each time before you leave you declare
“This person can not stay.”
You take from me all that I have
And leave me here with nothing
Dear Death I would like to know
If you could please give me something
Take care of what you take from me
Tell them they needn’t be frightened
I know they’ll go to a better place
Though I wish our time together didn’t end
And when my time comes Dear Death
Can I ask for one thing more?
Please bring with you the ones you took
So I’ll know just what’s in store.
So when my time comes I’ll see their faces
And before you take away my last breath away
I’ll look into your ever changing face and whisper
“Hello Dear Death I knew you would abide by what you say.”
