The "Me" That's Me
I promised myself I’d always be me,
I pounded it into my mind,
So I would think the thoughts I thought I should think
And be moral, just, and kind.
I’ve cried without approval of my perfect little promise
And my mind scolded me for my mistakes
I couldn’t keep the promise anymore
I wanted another “me” to awake
Well that promise taunted me; It knew I’d screw up
And be someone I thought I shouldn’t be
But a promise to be myself isn’t fair,
Unless I know which “me” is me.
