Facade
More shadow on her eyes,
Less truth in the white lies,
Red lipstick lined,
Just another way to hide.
The false smile she retains,
As people’s words inflict more than pain.
Little black dress,
One big mess,
Mascara streams from her gray eyes,
But she maintains her smokescreen disguise.
Falling down the rabbit hole with no way out,
Even words of comfort fill her with doubt.
She’s broken because she believed in the light,
The one at the end of the tunnel, the star against the night.
She’s not just some sad girl from a poem,
Some country song you sing when you’re alone.
She’s the girl you see each day,
The one whose sunny smile takes your breath away.
She’ll laugh and make life look so easy,
Because it’s simple to mask reality.
For her the façade hurts,
But the truth is so much worse.
