Thy violet eyes,
Beautiful but lonely.
Everybody moved on,
Left behind is thee only.

 

Thy violet eyes,
Beautiful but lonely.
They were once so warm,
But they are now stony.

 

Thy violet eyes,
Beautiful but lonely.
Void of young innocence,
Replaced with pain only.

 

There is nothing I wouldn’t do,
To see those eyes again.
Those warm, loveable jewels,
Untainted by hurt’s stain.

 

I want thee back.


The author's comments:

The poem came to me one grim evening, as I layed on my bed with Holocaust (Big Star) playing in my ears. I wanted to communicate the ways in which traumatic experiences can steal one's innocence, and change them completely - as though the former self is gone and dead.

An elegant little poem with a big meaning behind it. The repetition is fluid and almost like a lullaby. Great job with this, and keep writing. :)
