Reality, Vonnegut, and Me
Throw shade at the sun,
And sucker-punch the stars.
Light fire to your memories,
And throw your senses behind bars.
They will just slow you down,
So leave them behind.
You are broke and alone,
With a purpose to find.
Break free from the skin,
That surrounds you like saran wrap.
Just create until it kills you,
Don’t stop until you snap.
Paint with new colors,
And write upside-down.
Create something peculiar,
And they’ll all think its profound.
Sketch what confuses them,
And ignore what they see.
Lock up your logic,
Then throw away the key.
It’s the life of an artist,
To gift the world your pain.
So paint them all a picture,
Of life lacking a brain.
Maybe we are special,
Still doomed to live and die.
But we are able to express,
Why it is that we cry.
It just seems to be expected,
That an artist's life is pain.
They’d rather lose their minds,
Than keep their art and be sane.
You’re an artist, so act like one.
