black brings tears
Looking at the tree
She hangs there
In all her beauty and glory
Black and proud as her glazed eyes
Filled with death
He stares at me, with a crooked grin on his face.
His friends stand next to him as they laugh at the many females lined up on the branch.
My brothers can only but stare with broken eyes of their love.
I could only but stare at master.
He had done this, taking her purity and hanging her there like a trophy.
Picking cotton until my hands hurt
Hoping this would help me forget
Wishing this could be the only thing filling my mind
And not the thought of her
Her dark skin that would shine in the sun
Or her mischievous brown eyes as she stared at me with love
I could still feel her warm lips on mine
Her beautiful soul that connected to mines
“Boy! Get to work..”
Pain fills my back, but I relish in it
Pain helped me forget the memories of her
But only for a short time
Nothing could help me forget her fully
Weeping in the darkness of myself
Weeping for the future we could have had
Weeping for the children never to come
I couldn’t let tears show here.
Years have passed
Never loving because she still plagues my mind
The day we met still fresh in my brain
Still haunting my soul
Casting down memory lane
As the flood of remembrance comes, the curtains close on my eyes.
