I Lose Myself In You
A deep voice
askes me what is wrong.
I gaze longingly at the stars
hushing out a reply.
"I know you love me. Maybe I do as well.
For the grass is greener
the sky is vibrant
the night smoothly lulls me to sleep.
But you are poison in my soul.
It bounces around
confusingly in my skin and bones
asking where it is my mind and heart has gone.
I can no longer answer it
for you have taken all that is me away."
The boy that I have known
for a lifetime of memories
cannot look me in the eyes.
He stares at the same sky
his suddenly bold fingers
reach out to mine knowingly.
I take hold for the last time
coming to the realization
of what I need to do.
I squeeze hard
I let go
and I walk
on my own
to a destination only my soul can choose.

I have grown to understand how much a relationship can change a person. It is easy to lose yourself in the other person. You evolve to become more like them, maybe for the better, but also for the worse. It can be hard to stay true to yourself when in a relationship, and I think it is important to learn how to. It's important to protect yourself and your own values above anyone else.
