Where I'm From
I’m from expectations,
from parents and myself.
The older brother that excelled school; comparison began my downfall.
I’m from ambition,
for my future and now.
Imagining life in 10 years, sitting in my newly decorated home office with my four children and husband.
I’m from living timidly,
from fears and hesitation.
Afraid to embarrass myself, I somberly sat alone with no one to talk to; making no new friends.
I’m from personal growth,
a caterpillar to a butterfly.
Freshman year Science 9, I branched out and met my new best friend; still today we’re inseparable.
I’m from crazy schedules,
from school to sports.
Couldn't imagine life any other way; resting rarely.
I’m from endless laughter,
with teammates and friends.
Scattered on the floor like rag dolls, the whole team laughing so hard we’re crying.
I’m from working hard,
for my hopes and wishes.
Hours and hours devoted to practice, walking away with no energy left.
I’m from expectations
from parents and myself.
Living in a shadow to creating my own path and way of life.
